It has long been known that the hydrofluoric acid in artificially fluoridated water has a damaging effect on the stomach lining.  Conventional medicine, however, attributes the pain to other causes, e.g. stomach ulcers.  The linked document contains a brief description by Professor A.K Susheela of the damage caused.  Her photographs are particularly convincing.
