Sodium and Sulphates in Water

Sodium and Sulphates in Tap Water and in Bottled Water.

For the attention of new parents.

The document below fully explains the issue.  As a summary, however, the NHS Choices website advises new parents against using bottled water to make up their infant's formula because it is supposed to contain too much sodium and too many sulphates.  This is wrong advice as the sodium and sulphates' analysis shows.  NHS Choices also state that bottled water should not be used because it is not sterile.  That is a risible piece of advice: both tap water and bottled water have to be boiled and cooled before formula is added.  We have attempted to tell NHS Choices that their advice is wrong but have been ignored.  This is probably because, no doubt influenced by Chris Whitty, it's NHS policy to support WF and it is unlikely that that organisation is ever going to warn parents not to use [fluoridated] tap water.
